The School of Chemical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia hosted a knowledge-sharing session on Environmental Recycling System (ERS) technology on 19 June 2026 at the Conference Room.
The session was held in conjunction with the official visit of Prof. Kobayashi from the National Institute of Technology, Tsuruoka College, Japan, together with Mr. Inoue, a representative of JET Co., Ltd., who introduced ERS technology and its potential applications in sustainable waste management.
The presentation, entitled “Rapid Food Waste Recycling by ERS: Vacuum-Based Fermentation and Drying Bioreactor: An Innovative Approach”, highlighted an innovative system that utilises local microorganisms to process food and organic waste into value-added products such as fuel, organic fertiliser and animal feed within a short period of time.
ERS technology offers promising potential in supporting sustainable development, particularly in reducing organic waste, promoting resource recovery and strengthening circular economy practices. The session also served as a platform for academic staff, researchers, science officers, research officers, postgraduate students and members of the USM community to gain insights into current developments in environmental recycling technology.
Through this knowledge-sharing session, the School aims to strengthen academic, international and industry linkages, while exploring future opportunities for collaboration in waste management, green technology, environmental biotechnology and sustainability.
