SuSpectroCiety: STEM Empowerment through Spectroscopy for a Sustainable Society

STEM Empowerment & Community Engagement

Organised by Dr. Norazzizi Nordin and Dr. Nurul Yani Rahim from the School of Chemical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), in collaboration with The Malaysian Analytical Sciences Society (ANALIS), the “SuSpectroCiety: STEM Empowerment through Spectroscopy for a Sustainable Society” programme was successfully held at SMK Dato’ Haji Hassan Noh, Penaga on 25 April 2026.

The programme involved 40 Form Three students and was supported by 10 undergraduate students and five postgraduate students from the School of Chemical Sciences, USM, who served as facilitators throughout the activities.

Through inquiry-based and hands-on learning sessions, participants were introduced to the applications of spectroscopy and analytical science in everyday life. The programme also aimed to increase students’ awareness of the role of ANALIS in promoting STEM education and advancing analytical sciences in Malaysia.

In addition, the initiative provided students with opportunities to enhance their scientific knowledge and practical skills through engaging experimental activities related to real-world analytical science applications.

It is hoped that programmes such as this will continue to inspire and encourage greater interest among school students in pursuing STEM-related fields in the future.
